Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2001 Christies in London held the auction Important Portrait Miniatures including works from the, which included the work A young gentleman, facing right in blue coat with gold buttons and black collar, white waistcoat and cravat; sky background by William Grimaldi. The price achieved of GBP 1,762.50 (€ 2,804.69) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Grimaldi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke Of Wellington (1769-1852), which sold at auction in July 2015 for GBP 6,875.00 (€ 9,746.44).
