Auction result well in line with expectations

The work A young gentleman, seated in red-upholstered gilt-wood chair, facing right in green jacket with large covered buttons, tied cravat, powdered curling hair by William Grimaldi was sold in the IMPORTANT PORTRAIT MINIATURES, GOLD BOXES & OBJECTS OF VERTU auction at Christies in London in May 2002. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,151.00 (€ 3,368.50) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Grimaldi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Arthur Wellesley, 1St Duke Of Wellington (1769-1852), which sold at auction in July 2015 for GBP 6,875.00 (€ 9,746.44).
