Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Falls by Willard Leroy Metcalf was sold in the American Paintings, Drawings & Sculpture auction at Sothebys in New York in December 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 300,000.00 – 500,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 326,500.00 (€ 251,676.56) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Willard Leroy Metcalf have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in May 2014 the work October Festival was auctioned for USD 545,000.00 (€ 399,560.12).
