Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Ethelinda And James by Willard Leroy Metcalf was sold in the American Art auction at Sothebys in New York in May 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 150,000.00 – 250,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 162,500.00 (€ 144,624.42) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willard Leroy Metcalf - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work October Festival, which sold at auction in May 2014 for USD 545,000.00 (€ 399,560.12).
