Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Autumn Glory by Willard Leroy Metcalf was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 120,000.00 – 180,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 106,250.00 (€ 94,562.12). Admittedly, works by Willard Leroy Metcalf have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work October Festival in May 2014 with an auction result of USD 545,000.00 (€ 399,560.12).
