Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Washington Family by Thomas Sully was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2001. The price achieved of USD 70,500.00 (€ 78,700.60) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Sully - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Thomas Jefferson, which sold at auction in May 2003 for USD 209,100.00 (€ 177,715.45).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 70.500,00 (€ 78.700,60) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 60.000,00 – 80.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von Thomas Sully mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of Thomas Jefferson beobachtet, die im Mai 2003 für USD 209.100,00 (€ 177.715,45) versteigert wurde.
