Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of William Rawle by Thomas Sully for USD 6,250.00 (€ 5,150.39). This price was achieved in the auction In Praise of America: Important American Furniture, Folk Art, Silver, Prints and Broadsides at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Sully achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Thomas Jefferson in May 2003 with an auction result of USD 209,100.00 (€ 177,715.45).
