Auction result well in line with expectations
In January this year Christies in New York held the auction From Peale to Peto: American Masters from the Pollack Collection, which included the work Self Portrait: 66 Years Old by Thomas Sully. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 63,000.00 (€ 58,021.74) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Sully - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Thomas Jefferson, which sold at auction in May 2003 for USD 209,100.00 (€ 177,715.45).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Januar diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion From Peale to Peto: American Masters from the Pollack Collection durch, in der auch die Arbeit Self Portrait: 66 Years Old von Thomas Sully zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 60.000,00 – 80.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 63.000,00 (€ 58.021,74) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Für andere Arbeiten von Thomas Sully mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of Thomas Jefferson beobachtet, die im Mai 2003 für USD 209.100,00 (€ 177.715,45) versteigert wurde.
