Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Thomas Sully could be acquired at Christies in New York in March 2010 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Fine American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction, the work Portrait of Major George Bender changed hands for USD 8,750.00 (€ 6,469.02) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Sully achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Thomas Jefferson in May 2003 with an auction result of USD 209,100.00 (€ 177,715.45).
