This artwork by Thomas Sully achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in December 2004. In the Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction, the work The Passage of the Delaware sold for USD 175,500.00 (€ 129,635.10) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Thomas Sully; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of Thomas Jefferson sold at auction in May 2003 with the realized price of USD 209,100.00 (€ 177,715.45).

Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Thomas Sully; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit Portrait of Thomas Jefferson im Mai 2003 mit dem Hammerpreis von USD 209.100,00 (€ 177.715,45).
