This artwork by Thomas Phillips achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in September 2008. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work Portrait of a boy with his dog sold for USD 8,125.00 (€ 5,770.19) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Phillips achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, seated half-length, in a black coat, holding a silver snuff-box in his right hand in November 2001 with an auction result of GBP 47,000.00 (€ 74,791.81).
