Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Thomas Phillips could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in January 2007 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Important Old Master Paintings and European Works of Art auction, the work Portrait Of A Child In A Landscape changed hands for USD 14,400.00 (€ 11,078.63) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 15,000.00 – 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Thomas Phillips have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, seated half-length, in a black coat, holding a silver snuff-box in his right hand in November 2001 with an auction result of GBP 47,000.00 (€ 74,791.81).
