Auction result misses estimated price range
In June 2010 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait Of Sir Elliot Roberts by Thomas Phillips for USD 8,750.00 (€ 7,119.03). This price was achieved in the auction Old Master & 19th Century European Art at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Phillips achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, seated half-length, in a black coat, holding a silver snuff-box in his right hand in November 2001 with an auction result of GBP 47,000.00 (€ 74,791.81).
