PORTRAIT OF A GENTLEMAN, PROBABLY SIDNEY GODOLPHIN (1610-1643)
with flowing fair hair, wearing full armour and a lawn collar
watercolour and bodycolour on vellum, held in a gold frame enamelled in pale turquoise, the reverse decorated in white, black and rust with a raised central rosette and dentelle border, the suspension loop set with a ruby, the clasp holder with a diamond, later red leather and gold tooled case
7.1 by 5.7 cm.; 2 7/8 by 2 1/4 in.
