Auction result well in line with expectations
In December 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III, which included the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Circa 1655 by Samuel Cooper. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 8,750.00 (€ 10,341.48) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Samuel Cooper have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
