Auction result misses estimated price range
In July 2019 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait Of A Cleric by Samuel Cooper for GBP 3,500.00 (€ 3,842.77). This price was achieved in the auction The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures Part II at Sothebys in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 5,000.00 – 8,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Cooper achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
