Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait Of Sir John Robartes, 2Nd Baron Robartes Of Truro, Later 1St Earl Of Radnor (1606-1685), Circa 1665 by Samuel Cooper was sold in the The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III auction at Sothebys in London in December 2019. The price achieved of GBP 5,625.00 (€ 6,648.09) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Samuel Cooper achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background in June 2007 with an auction result of GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
