This artwork by Samuel Cooper achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2019. In the The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures Part II auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Circa 1667 sold for GBP 50,000.00 (€ 54,896.68) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 18,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Samuel Cooper; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background sold at auction in June 2007 with the realized price of GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
