In the Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction, the work A gentleman called Sir William Scott, Lord Clerkington (d. 1656), in black doublet, slashed on front and sleeves to reveal white, white lace-bordered lawn collar, long curling black hair, moustache and small pointed beard; blue background sold for GBP 30,000.00 (€ 31,508.73) - well above the upper estimate of GBP However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Samuel Cooper - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Gentleman Called John Campbell, Earl of Loudoun (1598-1663), In Gilt-Studded Armour, Large White Patterned Lawn Collar; Sky And Cloud Background, which sold at auction in June 2007 for GBP 66,000.00 (€ 97,940.68).
