Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Roberto Montenegro achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in May 2019. In the Latin American Art auction, the work Biombo (Map Of The Popular Arts Of Mexico) sold for USD 125,000.00 (€ 112,117.68) - well above the upper estimate of USD 60,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Roberto Montenegro; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Self-Portrait sold at auction in November 2017 with the realized price of USD 187,500.00 (€ 157,589.51).
