Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Portrait Of Hercules Rowley, 2Nd Viscount Langford (1737-1796) by Robert Hunter was worth GBP 26,900.00 (€ 34,217.98) to a buyer in May 2008. This price was achieved in the auction The Irish Sale at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 many times over. Admittedly, works by Robert Hunter have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Group portrait of George Rochfort, 2nd Earl of Belvedere, and his second wife Jane, daughter of Rev. James Mackay, the latter holding a baby in her arms, three-quarter-length, seated on a sofa, the former in Volunteer uniform, in an interior with a d in May 2002 with an auction result of GBP 149,650.00 (€ 234,353.92)
