This artwork by Melle achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in June 2001. In the TWENTIETH CENTURY ART INCLUDING BELGIAN ART auction, the work Het Schilderij - The Picture sold for NLG 12,925.00 (€ 6,212.36) - well above the upper estimate of NLG 7,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Melle; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A bird on stilts sold at auction in June 2003 with the realized price of EUR 10,755.00.

Dieses Kunstwerk von Melle erzielte im Juni 2001 bei Christies in Amsterdam einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion TWENTIETH CENTURY ART INCLUDING BELGIAN ART wurde die Arbeit Het Schilderij - The Picture für NLG 12.925,00 (€ 6.212,36) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von NLG 7.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Melle; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit A bird on stilts im Juni 2003 mit dem Hammerpreis von EUR 10.755,00.
