Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work The artist at work by Melle was auctioned at Christies in Amsterdam in January 2002, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of EUR 500.00 – 700.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for EUR 293.75. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Melle achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A bird on stilts in June 2003 with an auction result of EUR 10,755.00.
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit The artist at work von Melle im Januar 2002 bei Christies in Amsterdam versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von EUR 500,00 – 700,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für EUR 293,75 den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Melle erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit A bird on stilts im Juni 2003 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 10.755,00.
