This artwork by Matthew Ritchie achieved an unexpectedly high price at Phillips in New York in March 2012. In the Under the Influence auction, the work The New Place sold for USD 182,500.00 (€ 136,868.16) - well above the upper estimate of USD 70,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Matthew Ritchie; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Big Life oil and ink on canvas 88 x 154 in. (223.5 x 391.2 cm.) Executed in 2002. The Essential Diagrams 12 vinyl decals dimensions variable Executed in 2002. This work is number nine from an edition of twelve. sold at auction in November 2007 with the realized price of USD 289,000.00 (€ 196,759.26).
