Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Apollo Space Suit (After Beuys) by Matthew Day Jackson was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 56,700.00 (€ 46,498.28). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matthew Day Jackson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Harriet (Last Portrait) in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 662,500.00 (€ 535,613.23).
