Auction result well in line with expectations
In November last year Phillips in New York held the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art Day Sale, Afternoon Session, which included the work Lesson in seeing (LIFE Oct 15, 1971) by Matthew Day Jackson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 25,200.00 (€ 24,411.51) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Matthew Day Jackson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Harriet (Last Portrait) in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 662,500.00 (€ 535,613.23).
