Description
MASSIMO VITALI (B. 1944) A Portfolio of Landscapes with Figures Göttingen: Steidl Verlag for Brancolini Grimaldi Arte Contemporanea, 2006. Portfolio of fifty-two offset lithographs, each stamped photographer's and publisher's credits, numbered sequentially and editioned '024/120' (verso); each image: 26 x 33 5 ⁄ 8 in. (66 x 85.4 cm.), each sheet: 27 1 ⁄ 2 x 35 1 ⁄ 8 in. (69.8 x 89.2 cm); together with title page signed credited, titled and numbered in ink, plate list and colophon, twenty-four from a limited edition of 120, plus twenty artist's proofs; fifty plates contained in gray clamshell portfolio 3 1 ⁄ 2 x 36 1 ⁄ 4 x 28 1 ⁄ 8 in. (8.8 x 92 x 71.4 cm.), two works framed 45 x 38 in. (114.3 x 96.5 cm.) (or the inverse)
Auction result well in line with expectations
In October this year Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work A Portfolio of Landscapes with Figures by Massimo Vitali. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 25,000.00 – 35,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 25,200.00 (€ 23,845.57) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Massimo Vitali have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Rosignano in March 2008 with an auction result of USD 151,000.00 (€ 95,539.39).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Portfolio of Landscapes with Figures von Massimo Vitali zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 25.000,00 – 35.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 25.200,00 (€ 23.845,57) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Massimo Vitali auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Rosignano im März 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 151.000,00 (€ 95.539,39).
