Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work En el barco (For Edward James) by Leonora Carrington was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - USD 70,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at USD 604,800.00 (€ 563,600.78). Admittedly, works by Leonora Carrington have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Garden of Paracelsus in May last year with an auction result of USD 3,256,500.00 (€ 3,034,665.92).
Kunstwerk zum Achtfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit En el barco (For Edward James) von Leonora Carrington im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – USD 70.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit USD 604.800,00 (€ 563.600,78) mehr als achtmal so hoch. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Leonora Carrington auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Garden of Paracelsus im Mai letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 3.256.500,00 (€ 3.034.665,92).
