JONATHAN BOROFSKY (B. 1942) Molecule Men screenprint in black and gray, on Inveresk Exeter cover paper, 1979-1983, signed and dated '1979-82' in pencil, numbered 9/10 (there were also four artist's proofs), published by Gemini G.E.L., Los Angeles, 1983, with their blindstamps and ink stamp on the reverse, the full sheet, framed Sheet: 96 1 ⁄ 2 x 79 3 ⁄ 4 in. (2451 x 2026 mm.)
Auction result well in line with expectations
In April this year Christies in New York held the auction The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples: Online, which included the work Molecule Men by Jonathan Borofsky. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 2,016.00 (€ 1,826.09) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jonathan Borofsky achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Man with Briefcase A; B; C; at No. 3274714; and at No. 5876246 (G. 1482-4; 1461) in November 2006 with an auction result of USD 60,000.00 (€ 45,245.46).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im April diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion The Sale of the Century: An Important Corporate Collection of Prints and Multiples: Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit Molecule Men von Jonathan Borofsky zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 2.016,00 (€ 1.826,09) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jonathan Borofsky erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Man with Briefcase A; B; C; at No. 3274714; and at No. 5876246 (G. 1482-4; 1461) im November 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 60.000,00 (€ 45.245,46).
