Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by John Riley could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in May last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Master Paintings and Drawings Part II auction, the work Portrait of Sir William Monson, 4th Bt. (c. 1653-1727), three-quarter-length, before a column, a landscape beyond changed hands for USD 7,560.00 (€ 7,045.01) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Riley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Frances Wiat, three-quarter-length, seated, in an ochre dress and blue wrap, holding an orange in her left hand, her right arm resting on a plinth, before a draped curtain in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 25,850.00 (€ 40,975.43).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von John Riley konnte im Mai letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion Master Paintings and Drawings Part II wechselte die Arbeit Portrait of Sir William Monson, 4th Bt. (c. 1653-1727), three-quarter-length, before a column, a landscape beyond für USD 7.560,00 (€ 7.045,01) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 8.000,00 – 12.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Riley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Frances Wiat, three-quarter-length, seated, in an ochre dress and blue wrap, holding an orange in her left hand, her right arm resting on a plinth, before a draped curtain im Juni 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 25.850,00 (€ 40.975,43).
