Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of Sir John Guise (c.1654-1695), 2nd Baronet of Elmore, half-length, in armour, with a white lace stock by John Riley was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2013. The price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,136.97) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 4,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Riley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Frances Wiat, three-quarter-length, seated, in an ochre dress and blue wrap, holding an orange in her left hand, her right arm resting on a plinth, before a draped curtain in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 25,850.00 (€ 40,975.43).
