In October 2015 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of Edmund Waller, Half-Length, In A Dark Coat And Lace Stock by John Riley. The result of GBP 6,000.00 (€ 8,392.50) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by John Riley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Frances Wiat, three-quarter-length, seated, in an ochre dress and blue wrap, holding an orange in her left hand, her right arm resting on a plinth, before a draped curtain in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 25,850.00 (€ 40,975.43).
