In October 2015 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of William Chiffinch, Half-Length by John Riley. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 12,500.00 (€ 17,484.38), 56% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by John Riley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Frances Wiat, three-quarter-length, seated, in an ochre dress and blue wrap, holding an orange in her left hand, her right arm resting on a plinth, before a draped curtain, which sold at auction in June 2000 for GBP 25,850.00 (€ 40,975.43).

Im Oktober 2015 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait Of William Chiffinch, Half-Length von John Riley zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 12.500,00 (€ 17.484,38) und damit 56% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von John Riley mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of Frances Wiat, three-quarter-length, seated, in an ochre dress and blue wrap, holding an orange in her left hand, her right arm resting on a plinth, before a draped curtain beobachtet, die im Juni 2000 für GBP 25.850,00 (€ 40.975,43) versteigert wurde.
