This artwork by John Melhuish Strudwick achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in June 2004. In the British Art on Paper including Victorian Watercolours from auction, the work Study of figure and a subsidiary study of a figure in an arcade (recto); and a study of a church architrave (verso) sold for GBP 2,270.50 (€ 3,379.18) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by John Melhuish Strudwick achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Thy Music, faintly falling, dies away, Thy dear eyes dream that Love will live for aye' G.F. Bodley in November 2003 with an auction result of GBP 509,250.00 (€ 731,035.91).
