Auction result well in line with expectations
In November 2001 Christies in London held the auction Important British & Irish Art, which included the work Isabella 'Piteous she looked on dead and senseless things, Asking for her lost Basil piteously sic' by John Melhuish Strudwick. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 443,750.00 (€ 706,146.04) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by John Melhuish Strudwick have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in November 2003 the work 'Thy Music, faintly falling, dies away, Thy dear eyes dream that Love will live for aye' G.F. Bodley was auctioned for GBP 509,250.00 (€ 731,035.91).
