The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,625.00 (€ 2,330.13), 35% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by John Brandon Smith have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A waterfall in a wooded river valley in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 5,875.00 (€ 9,602.46).

Die Arbeit The rocky waterfall von John Brandon Smith wurde im September 2007 in der Auktion Victorian & Traditionalist Pictures bei Christies in London versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 1.625,00 (€ 2.330,13) und damit 35% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von John Brandon Smith auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A waterfall in a wooded river valley im November 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 5.875,00 (€ 9.602,46).
