engraving, circa 1590, a good impression of this rare print, the guide lines in the text still evident, watermark Lettres Assemblées, trimmed close to the engraved border at the left and right, with thread margins top and bottom, a soft crease across the upper right corner, a rust mark at the lower right sheet edge, two small rust spots and one or two spots of minor staining verso slightly showing through, a wormhole at the upper right of the subject, otherwise in good condition

Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2004 Christies in London held the auction Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints, which included the work Cain killing Abel, after C. van Haarlem (B. 29; Holl. 8) by Jan Müller. The price achieved of GBP 1,912.00 (€ 2,845.63) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,800.00 – 2,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Jan Müller achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Virgins in November 2002 with an auction result of USD 53,775.00 (€ 54,143.17).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Juni 2004 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master, Modern and Contemporary Prints durch, in der auch die Arbeit Cain killing Abel, after C. van Haarlem (B. 29; Holl. 8) von Jan Müller zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.912,00 (€ 2.845,63) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.800,00 – 2.200,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Jan Müller erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Virgins im November 2002 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 53.775,00 (€ 54.143,17).
