Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Thames Warehouses; Old Westminster Bridge, both from A Series of Sixteen Etchings of Scenes on the Thames and Other Subjects 2 by James Abbott McNeill Whistler was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in June this year, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 640.00 (€ 586.08). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Abbott McNeill Whistler achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Whistler Smoking in November 2021 with an auction result of USD 1,200,000.00 (€ 1,063,170.02).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Thames Warehouses; Old Westminster Bridge, both from A Series of Sixteen Etchings of Scenes on the Thames and Other Subjects 2 von James Abbott McNeill Whistler im Juni diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Los Angeles versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 640,00 (€ 586,08) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Abbott McNeill Whistler erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Whistler Smoking im November 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.200.000,00 (€ 1.063.170,02).
