Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Fumette; J. Becquet, Sculptor 2 by James Abbott McNeill Whistler was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in January 2024, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,200.00 – 1,800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 768.00 (€ 671.21). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Abbott McNeill Whistler achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Whistler Smoking in November 2021 with an auction result of USD 1,200,000.00 (€ 1,063,170.02).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Fumette; J. Becquet, Sculptor 2 von James Abbott McNeill Whistler im Januar 2024 bei Bonhams in Los Angeles versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 1.200,00 – 1.800,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 768,00 (€ 671,21) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von James Abbott McNeill Whistler erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Whistler Smoking im November 2021 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.200.000,00 (€ 1.063.170,02).
