Mary Hutchinson posed for Henry Tonks’s comic, Boucher-esque illustrations of ‘The Lovers of Orelay’, a somewhat scandalous episode in the autobiography, Memoirs of My Dead Life, first published in 1906, by his good friend, the Irish author George Moore.

This price was achieved in the auction Made in Britain at Sothebys in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 600.00 many times over. Admittedly, works by Henry Tonks have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Study for 'An Advanced Dressing Station in France' in June 2018 with an auction result of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 11,301.70).
