It was a warm spring day when we met in Manchester
signed with a fly (lower right), signed again, inscribed and dated 'It was a warm Spring Day when we met/in Manchester - Mother, George & I & Grandma/and the two aunts had just arrived outside/the Royal Infirmary on Piccadilly when Miss/Carter (who wore Pink) arrived with Mr Taylor (the Bank/Manager). Everyone thought it so kind of him to/accompany us to Affleck & Browns to buy a carpet./- George & I would have loved to have stayed/with the pigeons, but the shopping had to be done/but, we did stop to buy some delicious Ashton-Moss/celery and Grandma bought some daffodills [sic]. Miss Carter/lingered near the Roses but Mr Taylor gave all his/attention to Grandma. There was a man lying on a /bench and a little boy called to a nurse - "Please/come, I'm sure he's dead" so we hurried away & the/year was 1907/Helen Layfield Bradley 1970' (on a label attached to the reverse)

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In June 2008 Christies in London held the auction 20th Century British Art, which included the work It was a warm spring day when we met in Manchester by Helen Layfield Bradley. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 70,850.00 (€ 89,556.78), 18% above the upper estimate. Other works by Helen Layfield Bradley have achieved even higher prices, we observed the highest auction result so far of GBP 94,100.00 (€ 131,764.35) in November 2007 for the work Our First Morning in Blackpool.

Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 70.850,00 (€ 89.556,78) und damit 18% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Andere Arbeiten von Helen Layfield Bradley haben noch höhere Preise erzielt - wir haben das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis von GBP 94.100,00 (€ 131.764,35) im November 2007 für die Arbeit Our First Morning in Blackpool beobachtet.
