On Our Way Home
signed 'HELEN BRADLEY' and with a fly (lower left); inscribed 'On our way home from visiting/Great Aunt Jane who lived up Springhead/we always passed The Chemist Shop,/at County End so that Aunt Frances/could stop and have a word with James/Alfred, the nice young son of the owner./I heard mother say to Aunt Mary/that she was sure they were in love with/one another, but his mother said that/he wasnt [sic] to dream of marrying, at least/not whilst she was alive, so poor James/Alfred couldnt [sic] call at Grandma's and/ask aunt Frances to walk out with/him, so George and I used to run to his/shop with little notes which he took round/the back. Then he would give me one to take/back to aunt Frances and along with the note/a big lump of sugar candy, and the year was /1907.' (on a label attached to the reverse)

In March 2013 Christies in London held the auction Modern British and Irish Art, which included the work On Our Way Home by Helen Layfield Bradley. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 27,500.00 (€ 32,600.46), 38% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Helen Layfield Bradley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Our First Morning in Blackpool in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 94,100.00 (€ 131,764.35).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 38 % übertroffen
Im März 2013 führte Christies in London die Auktion Modern British and Irish Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit On Our Way Home von Helen Layfield Bradley zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 27.500,00 (€ 32.600,46) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Helen Layfield Bradley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Our First Morning in Blackpool im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 94.100,00 (€ 131.764,35).
