Winter landscape (On the morning of my tenth birthday)
signed HELEN BRADLEY (lower right) and inscribed 'On the morning of my tenth birthday, the postman/came with a big box for me, "whatever can it be" -/"it's come from Holland". I was in such a hurry/to open it I said, "Let us cut the string", but "no" said/Mother, "we never cut string", "I'll help you to undo it"/Inside was a real Dutch costume including a/pair of wooden clogs. The skirt, the pretty white/apron and the velvet bodice fit me perfectly. In/the letter my Dear Aunt Anne had included in/the parcel, she wished I was with her, staying in/a lovely old farm house, and what fun we would/have skating on the frozen canal, and when we became/very good, we would skate all the way to Haarlem/which was a Beautiful Place (sic). We will take Woof/with us - the big, black farm dog, and there he is/watching me trying to skate, and, there's George/with the little girl from the farm, and the year was/1910.' (on a label attached to the backboard)

In July 2013 Christies in London held the auction Modern British and Irish Art, which included the work Winter landscape (On the morning of my tenth birthday) by Helen Layfield Bradley. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 20,000.00 (€ 22,853.49), 67% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Helen Layfield Bradley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Our First Morning in Blackpool in November 2007 with an auction result of GBP 94,100.00 (€ 131,764.35).

Im Juli 2013 führte Christies in London die Auktion Modern British and Irish Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Winter landscape (On the morning of my tenth birthday) von Helen Layfield Bradley zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 20.000,00 (€ 22.853,49) und damit 67% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Helen Layfield Bradley auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Our First Morning in Blackpool im November 2007 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 94.100,00 (€ 131.764,35).
