This artwork by Harry Clarke achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in December 2010. In the Victorian & British Impressionist Pictures Including Drawings and Watercolours auction, the work Message Found in a Bottle for 'Tales of Mystery and Imagination' by Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1949) sold for GBP 20,000.00 (€ 23,199.94) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by Harry Clarke have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Mother of Sorrows, Memorial to Sister Superior Mary of Saint Wilfrid, Principal of Dowanhill Training College, Glasgow, 1926 in May 2002 with an auction result of GBP 65,725.00 (€ 102,926.24).
