This artwork by Frederick Buck achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in March 2007. In the Portrait Miniatures & Objects of Vertu auction, the work An officer probably of the 23rd Foot Royal Welsh Fusiliers, in scarlet coat with blue facings and gold lace, his shoulder belt plate bearing the Prince of Wales' feathers sold for GBP 1,800.00 (€ 2,649.39) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Frederick Buck; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A young lady, facing right in ruffle bordered white silk dress, yellow sash, blue hat with yellow ribbon in her long curling brown hair sold at auction in June 2003 with the realized price of GBP 2,987.50 (€ 4,293.20).
