This artwork by Frederick Buck achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2004. In the THE IRISH SALE auction, the work A young gentleman, facing right in blue coat with gold buttons, white waistcoat and tied cravat, powdered hair sold for GBP 1,075.50 (€ 1,613.65) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 400.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Frederick Buck - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A young lady, facing right in ruffle bordered white silk dress, yellow sash, blue hat with yellow ribbon in her long curling brown hair, which sold at auction in June 2003 for GBP 2,987.50 (€ 4,293.20).
