This artwork by Frank Hurley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in April 2002. In the Photographs auction, the work Return of the sun after the long winter darkness (S.Y. Endurance in the Weddell Sea) sold for USD 35,850.00 (€ 39,824.48) - well above the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00. Admittedly, works by Frank Hurley have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Photographs of Scenes and Incidents in connection with the happenings to the Weddell Sea Party 1914, 1915, 1916. in September 2006 with an auction result of GBP 120,000.00 (€ 177,025.30).
