This artwork by Frank Hurley achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in April 2007. In the Photographs auction, the work The Low Sun after the Winter Night (S.Y. Endurance in the Weddell Sea), 1915 sold for USD 90,000.00 (€ 65,885.80) - well above the upper estimate of USD 35,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Frank Hurley - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Photographs of Scenes and Incidents in connection with the happenings to the Weddell Sea Party 1914, 1915, 1916., which sold at auction in September 2006 for GBP 120,000.00 (€ 177,025.30).
