Auction result well in line with expectations
In June 2003 Christies in London held the auction British Pictures 1500-1850, which included the work Portrait of the Hon. Mary Digby, three-quarter-length, in a maroon dress and blue wrap, holding a basket of oranges on her left arm, an orange in her right hand by Charles Jervas. The price achieved of GBP 6,572.50 (€ 9,445.04) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by Charles Jervas have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Elizabeth Felton, Of Playford, Later Countess Of Bristol (1677-1741), Three-Quarter-Length, Seated In A White Dress With A Blue Wrap, In A Wooded Landscape in June 2002 with an auction result of GBP 45,410.00 (€ 70,238.99).
