Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In December 2008 Sothebys in London held the auction Early British & Irish Paintings, which included the work Portrait Of Henrietta (D.1776), Wife Of Thomas Pelham-Holles, Duke Of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne And 1St Duke Of Newcastle-Under-Lyme (1693-1768) And Prime Minister (1754-1756) by Charles Jervas. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 30,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 31,250.00 (€ 32,821.59). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Charles Jervas - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Elizabeth Felton, Of Playford, Later Countess Of Bristol (1677-1741), Three-Quarter-Length, Seated In A White Dress With A Blue Wrap, In A Wooded Landscape, which sold at auction in June 2002 for GBP 45,410.00 (€ 70,238.99).
